ONE OF THE PIONEERS OF CONTEMPORARY IRAQI VISUAL ART

Born in Baghdad in 1951, Adeeb Makki carries a lifelong dialogue with color, memory, and the human spirit. His artistic journey began early, shaping the foundations of visual culture in Iraq through pioneering contributions to children’s publications and the country’s first animated film.
Across decades of practice, Makki’s work has unfolded through watercolor, figurative expression, and spiritually inspired rhythms, where form becomes emotion and movement turns into meaning. His paintings echo inner states, cultural memory, and the quiet poetry of human presence.
Exhibited internationally across the Middle East, Europe, North America, and Mexico, Adeeb Makki now lives and works in the United States, continuing to create art that transcends geography while remaining deeply rooted in identity, time, and contemplation.1
